Setting up your Trezor hardware wallet is straightforward and takes just a few minutes. This guide will walk you through every step of the process.
Step 1: Visit Trezor.io/start
Navigate to the official Trezor setup page at trezor.io/start. This is your starting point for downloading the Trezor Suite application, which is the official software for managing your Trezor device.
Step 2: Download Trezor Suite
Download Trezor Suite for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). The software is free and open-source, ensuring transparency and security.
Step 3: Connect Your Device
Plug your Trezor device into your computer using the provided USB cable. The device will power on automatically and display instructions on its screen.
Step 4: Install Firmware
If this is your first time using the device, you'll need to install the latest firmware. Follow the on-screen instructions in Trezor Suite to complete this process.
Step 5: Create Your Wallet
You'll be prompted to create a new wallet. During this process, your Trezor will generate a recovery seed—a list of 12 or 24 words that serve as a backup for your wallet.
Step 6: Write Down Your Recovery Seed
This is the most critical step. Write down your recovery seed on the provided recovery card and store it in a safe place. Never take a photo or store it digitally. This seed is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
Step 7: Verify Your Seed
Trezor Suite will ask you to verify your recovery seed by selecting words in the correct order. This ensures you've written it down correctly.
Step 8: Set a PIN
Create a PIN to protect your device from unauthorized access. You'll need to enter this PIN every time you connect your Trezor.
Step 9: Start Using Your Wallet
Congratulations! Your Trezor is now set up and ready to use. You can start receiving and sending cryptocurrency securely.
